Revisiting MLB Predictions

Revisiting MLB Predictions

We’re down to the final four teams in this MLB season, and it’s a fun time to look back at the predictions we made back in March and see how little we knew and remember how much younger we were back then.

World Series Teams

So the group as a whole were right to not give Yankees or Mets too much credit, but this is a graveyard of burnt dreams, specifically looking back to the Braves – who were widely considered top 3 contenders for rings, and working on one of the longest consecutive playoff streaks all-time (again). It felt over for them right away when they started 0-7, but they managed to get themselves to .500 before the all-star break and then couldn’t go any further.

NL MVP/AL MVP

Ohtani and Judge were popular choices to repeat and probably will pan out unless Cal Raleigh beats the odds here at the end – Judge was not actually the most picked AL player that was Bobby Witt Jr. who did have another all-star season but it was a bit of a step back from 2024. The expected runner-ups in both leagues (Cal Raleigh, Kyle Schwarber) were predicted by absolutely nobody.

NL Cy Young/AL Cy Young

As unpredictable as the playoffs have been – these major awards are very chalky. Skenes and Skubal both picked by us, and both expected to repeat. Garrett Crochet did get picked by a few guys, but the other top contenders from both leagues – Hunter Brown, Christopher Sanchez, Freddy Peralta – all weren’t on the radar.

Rookies of the Year

Nick Kurtz (Athletics) and Cade Horton (Cubs) are favorites right now with Drake Baldwin (Braves) having an outside shot. Here were our picks….which…were a swing and a miss.

NL ROY

AL ROY

One more notable miss – NL Central wasn’t picked by zero folks to be the top division, and they ended up with three playoff teams, although the Reds did need a miracle collapse from the Mets to get in.

Checking the Any Other Predictions section where people could send anything they wanted and almost nothing panned out, except for a few very safe bets…

‘No pitcher will have 20 or more wins (again)’ – Kopaseric

‘White Sox won more than 60 games; I go to at least 5 Cubs game at Wrigley’ – Benster will have to report if this came true or not.

Verdict

Outside the major awards, nobody knew anything.
